Allyson Witherspoon is a vice president and Chief Marketing Office for  Nissan U.S. Most recently, she was a vice president of Marketing Communications and Media, and right before that she was a Global Brand Engagement General Manager for Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., in Yokohama, Japan, where she was responsible for the leadership and implementation of Nissan’s global marketing and investment strategy including creative, media, sponsorship, agency structure and heritage collection.

She has also served as a director of Marketing Communication and Media for INFINITI USA, where she was responsible for developing the vision and leading the execution of the brand’s cross-carline marketing strategy.

Before her appointment with Nissan and INFINITI, Witherspoon served as the global business director for Volvo in Amsterdam, Netherlands, adding to her marketing agency experience that included leading accounts for BMW North America and Mercedes-Benz USA.

Witherspoon holds a bachelor’s degree in marketing from the University of Missouri-Columbia. In 2014, Automotive News named Witherspoon as one of the “40 Under 40” for automakers and suppliers. In 2020 she was recognized as a Female Frontier for breaking brand barriers by Campaign US and was also named one of the 100 Leading Women in North American Auto Industry by Automotive News. And she has recently being recently being recognized by  Business Insider as one of the CMOs to watch in 2021.

In this episode, we talk about how it all started, her perspective on the client side and the agency side and the challenges she faced while working overseas and navigating different cultures. We then discuss the importance of self-awareness and self-care and she also tells us how she uses fear as a motivation. Last, but not least, we talk about the importance of financial independence and how crucial it is for all of us to have a support system and to set personal and professional boundaries.
